GEAR Releases GEAR PRO Mastering Edition 8.10

CSS in DDP 2.00 and Expanded UDF 2.50 for Blu-ray Are Newest Features

Jupiter, FL (2011-11-03) – GEAR® Software, maker of professional premastering software and developer tools for CD and DVD recording, today released GEAR PRO Mastering Edition 8.10. The new release builds on GEAR's extensive feature set for premastering CD and DVD audio, video and ROM titles.

"There are several prominent improvements with the 8.10 release," said Michael Szabo, GEAR's Manager of Technical Services and Customer Support. "Among fixes and other enhancements is the ability to output DDP 2.00 images for DVD-Video flagged for CSS encryption; whether the VIDEO_TS source content was flagged for CSS by the authoring application or not."

In prior iterations of GEAR PRO Mastering Edition, to produce a DDP 2.00 image for DVD-Video flagged for CSS the source needed to be pre-flagged by the authoring application. With v8.10, this isn't necessary. In previous releases of GEAR, if CSS encryption was required, users without the ability to pre-flag the VIDEO_TS source were required to generate DDP 2.10, instead of DDP 2.00. GEAR PRO Mastering Edition 8.10 now allows for DDP 2.00 in those cases.

New to GEAR PRO Mastering Edition 8.10 is its support for UDF 2.50, enabling users to burn content to Blu-ray® media. GEAR has long-supported UDF 2.50 in its GEARWorks SDK for software developers, but this is the first time this functionality has been expressed in its Windows premastering application. GEAR users can also burn Blu-ray® media by targeting up to 99 recorders using GEAR's duplication capabilities. Another new feature of GEAR PRO Mastering Edition 8.10 is the new DVD-Video project that allows for a relaxed ISO file system. Users can now add DVD-ROM content outside the VIDEO_TS folder and use long filenames.

"The new features in GEAR PRO Mastering Edition 8.10 continue to make it a compelling product for use in the work flow of mastering professionals." Szabo said. "Our customers have asked for these enhancements and we're pleased to make them available in this release."
